“I enthusiastically recommend Ben Houser’s work. In 2021 he did the subtitles for the 1996 Argentine film Eva Perón: La Verdadera Historia. It was a film I wanted to pair with my teaching of the 1996 Hollywood movie Evita. There were no English language versions of the Argentine film available so I reached out to Ben to see if he could do the subtitling work. Since he had a background in Comparative Literature and Intercultural Studies, I felt that he could communicate the spirit of the language in his translation.

That expectation was more than met. Though he was balancing a number of other projects, he completed the subtitling work in a timely fashion and at a reasonable price. He provided a DVD and cloud-based version of the work. He was very responsive throughout the process and answered questions months after the project was finished. When I used the film in class, some of my students who are more versed in Spanish noted some subtleties in speech use that were nicely captured in the subtitles.
